- WILLIAM H. KIDD, Q.C. c.1915-1987
William Herbert "Cappy" Kidd was born in Napanee, Ontario and graduated from Queen's University in 1937. He served as a major in the Royal Canadian Artillery in Europe during the Second World War returning to Canada in 1945. In 1946 he entered the Law School at the University of British Columbia and set up practice in Vancouver in 1950. From there he moved to Ottawa where he served as the national secretary of the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada. He came to Galt from Ottawa in 1954. He was a senior partner in the local firm of Hancock, Kidd and Charlton and served on the Board of Directors of Renison College at the University of Waterloo and of Wilfrid Laurier University. He also served on the Stratford Festival Board of Directors for six years and was elected to serve a two year term as president of the Ontario Bar Association in 1978. Mr. Kidd died on July 11, 1987.
