Notes |
- Steckley, William Lloyd
After a valiant struggle, but desiring to be with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and his beloved Merrill, passed away at his home at Nith Valley Manor, St. Jacobs with his family at his side.
Loving father of his children, Leigh and Lois, Brenda and Dale, and Ross and Faye, and sadly missed by his grandchildren Matthew and Lisa, Jill and Nathan, Katie and Eric, Jenee and Wes, Josh and Mary Lynn, Jonathan and Lindsay, Jayme and Tremaine. Bill was a special great Grandpa to Abbie, Norah, Jackson, Eden, Selah, Hayden, Vienna, Ayden, Gracie, Sierra, Simon, Eli, Mae and Penny.
Dear brother of Patricia and Melvin Jantzi, sister in law Beatrice Steckley, brother in law John and Elizabeth Gerber and brother in law Stan and Marg Iutzi.
Predeceased by his wife Merrill, his brother Roy, his sister Pauline Gerber, and his parents Simon and Lena.
Bill was born in Milverton and was a member of Poole Mennonite Church until marriage when he and Merrill became members of Shantz Mennonite Church.
Bill started his working life after Grade 8 at Ebersols Foundry and also at Rice's garage which was known as the Ford garage, both in Milverton.
After marrying Merrill in 1949, they bought a farm in Berletts Corner. Working at Albert Erb's MF dealership in Wellesley, he stepped out with Alberts urging and encouragement and became a partner at L&S Sales and Service in New Hamburg. Under Bills direction as sole proprietor, the business grew into a prominent and successful farm and industrial services dealership, where customer satisfaction was always in the forefront, made possible by his dedication and loyal employees whom he counted as friends.
After retirement and selling the business, they really enjoyed their volunteering, especially the 6 years with MDS in out of country assignments.
In 1982 they moved to Dyers Bay where he helped Merrill operate Merrills Upper Deck B&B for 20 years.
Bill was a projects and ideas guy who had enough plans to fill another lifetime. He always said that he couldn't have accomplished anything without Merrill and her lifelong support.
Bills passion for life involved many happy times with family and friends at their cottages, living their faith quietly and serving others.
After Merrills death in 2014, Bill endured 3 times a week dialysis treatments with perseverance and dignity which allowed him to remain in his apartment with much help. That help took a village of helpers who came to love and were impacted by Bill as much as he was blessed by their assistance.
Bill always expressed thanks and gratitude to those who helped him in so many ways.
On behalf of Bill, his family would like to express their sincerest thanks to:
Dr. Vitou and the 3 rd floor dialysis unit at Grand River Hospital, Dr. Gingell-Potts, the caring and always friendly Kiwanis Transit drivers and staff, his PSW care givers Debbie, Judie, Shanna, Tom, and all those many workers from LIHNS. Thank you to Valley View Manor residents, his loving neighbours there, and Stan & Marg, Freda, and Lydia for the many "pushes and pick-ups".
Thank you to all of you who visited, brought meals and treats, who took time to tell Bill that he had been important in their lives.
Thank you to Patricia and Melvin for the meals and regular care and times to talk as only a loving sister can provide.
Thank you to all who were a part of Dads village. His amazing quality of life in the midst of many health challenges was because of you. To God be the Glory.
