- 4th President - Mrs. Plumtree -1952-1956
Mrs. Plumtree, a farmer's wife in Doon, was born in Cheshire, England on June 20th, 1882. Her maiden name was Mary Ellen Bellis. She attended Rhor Robin school in Wrescham, North Wales, and came to Canada after her marriage to Ernest Plumtree.
Before coming to this district they farmer near Crieff. They came to Doon, with their son Charles and bought the farm on County Road 29, across from the Gingrich-Evens farm. Most likely this farm was part of the original Stauffer farm. Mr. and Mrs. Plumtree were members of the Doon Presbyterian Church, and added greatly to the singing as they both had fine voices. Mrs. Plumtree enjoyed coming to Sunday School and did like the Intitute meetings.
They had been planning their 50th wedding anniversary but Mrs. Plumtree was stricken a short time before and had to celebrate the special day in the South Waterloo Memorial Hospital where she died on Oct. 31st. 1960, having lived in our community for twenty-one years. She left beside her son, a daughter and several grandchildren.
Charles Plumtree bought the family farm and has been running it since his father retired. He has adopted two boys, and has two daughters. This year he sold the family farm and has bought a larger farm with splendid buildings near the Nith River, in Washington, Ontario.
