  Former UW prof dies in plane crash WATERLOO A world-renowned expert in solar thermal energy has died after his ultralight plane crashed in Puslinch on Saturday. Alfred Brunger, 63, of Waterloo, was the sole occupant of the ultralight plane which he built and owned. He was on his way home from his cottage near the Ottawa River and set to land at the Region of Waterloo International Airport when the plane crashed near Watson Road South in Puslinch Township just before 4 p.m... Brunger ran the Solar Research Lab at UW from 1986 to 1997 and then went on to work at the national solar test facility in Mississauga. He was instrumental in starting the Midnight Sun solar car team at Waterloo. "He was so talented and capable," said Van Decker. "It sounds cliché, but he was a boy scout.
