- Mrs. C. C. Cressman Died After Brief Illness
(By Southwest Wilmot corres.) Mrs. Curtis C. Cressman, 63, of R.R. 1, New Hamburg, wife of Bishop Curtis C. Cressman, died suddenly on Friday night at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener, following a very brief illness which was a complication of a diabetic condition. Mrs. Cressman, the former Amanda Ethel Byler, was born in Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Byler. In 1919 she was married to Bishop Cressman, and since that time has lived in the New Hamburg area. She served in various capacities in the Biehn Mennonite Church by wise counsel and spirtual guidance as well as the many manual tasks which she encountered. She was well loved by all her neighbors who learned over the years to admire and respect her cheerful disposition and unbiased opinion. She recently assisted with four weeks of summer Bible school work, two weeks at the Bright Mennonite Mission, and two weeks at the Biehn Community Summer Bible School.
Surviving Surviving beside her husband are one son, Howard, of New Hamburg; two daughters, Mrs. Gordon (Lillian) Bean, New Dundee; Miss Elsie, a missionary in Tanganyika, East Africa; four brothers, Elmer, Freeport, N.Y.; Joseph, Clarence Centre, N.Y.; Archie and Raymond, of LaGrange, Ind.; three sisters, Mrs. Amos (Mary) Yoder, of Aberdeen, South Dakota; Mrs. Christopher (Alice) Miller, of Lindville, Virginia; Mrs. Roy (Elsie) Frey, Akron, N.Y.; and nine grandchildren. She was predeceased by two children in infancy, Paul and Lydia, and by Mrs. Clifford (Ruth) Strubhar.
A very large number of relatives and friends attended the funeral service which was held at the Biehn Mennonite Church on Tuesday afternoon with Bishop Moses Roth and Rev. Moses N. Baer conducting the service. Interment was made in the cemetery adjoining the church. Mourners were in attendance from LaGrange, Ind.; Freeport, 111.; Akron, N.Y.; Lindville, Va.; Uniontown, O.; Culp, Ark.; St. Clair, Mich., and from many Ontario centres.
