____________
Social and Personal
Welcome visitors to town are Major George Heather of the Royal Field Artillery, and Mrs. Heather, who are staying with Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Mills, on Roxborough street, Mrs. Heather was formerly Mrs. Everard Hoffman of Kitchener, but the Major who is on three months' leave, is an Irishman, a Sligo man, whose estate, "Errislannan Manor," is in Connemara, and is on his first visit to Canada.
He enters so fully into Canadian life, however, that his wife's friends feel that Canada has gained a son, rather than lost a daughter, by the international alliance. Mrs. Heather hopes to return to England with her husband when the latter has to report for duty again with his battery, which forms part of the defenses of the east coast, as during the last two years or more she has been very busy with war work in England, and has been a fairy godmother to many a lonesome Canadian Tommy.
