Notes |
- Frank Henry Kenkel died peacefully Wednesday surrounded by love with family and friends by his side at Cambridge Memorial Hospital. Beloved husband of Patricia, dear father of Lynn (Patrick) Eastcott of Cambridge, Bob (Charlotte) of Kitchener, Sue (Mike) Riddell of Cambridge, Bill (Lori) of Waterloo, Kathy (Carl) Taylor of Cambridge, Dan and his friend Cheryl of Cambridge, and Brian and his friend Tina of Cambridge. Sadly missed by his grandchildren and great-grandchilren, his brothers Joe (the late Grace), Ralph (Ann), and his sister-in law Tena, all of B. C. Predeceased by his parents Frank and Johanna Kenkel, his brother Ben, his sister-in-law Marilyn, and also his son-in-law Charles Mitchell. Also remembered by Sharon, Sheila and Donna. In his 75th year, he has accomplished so much in his life. Born in Flin Flon, Manitoba to Frank and Johanna Kenkel. He moved to Hespeler from B. C. Here he met Patricia Hinsperger, a beautiful young woman who quickly became the love of his life. On September 18, 1954 the headlines of the Galt Evening Reporter read "BC man weds Hespeler girl" as the two were married and began their life together. Frank became a volunteer with the Hespeler Fire Department. With the amalgamation of Cambridge, he took on a full time position with the Cambridge Fire Department and found his true calling in helping others. Once while vacationing in his favorite location at Six Mile Lake, Frank rescued a man and his child from drowning when their boat capsized. He received commendations for his heroic acts. In 1993, Frank retired from the Fire Department as Captain, and he and Patricia purchased a trailer at Wildwood by the Severn. Always an avid conservationalist, Frank enjoyed his time at by the lake and became active on the park committee. He was passionate about environment issues and in his retirement received an award for environmental conservation and preservation. Frank was always a story teller and enjoyed writing a series of short stories entitled "Willy Neverbudge". Frank Henry Kenkel has touched many people in his lifetime. There is no doubt he will live on long after he has passed, in the hearts and minds of his friends and family. He will always be remembered as the unbelievable man that he has proven himself to be. Frank's family will welcome friends at the Lounsbury Funeral Home, 1766 Franklin Boulevard, Cambridge on Saturday from 7-9 pm and on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm with Vigil Prayers being held at 8:30 pm Sunday evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church, 16 Cooper Street, Cambridge on Monday morning at 11 am by Frank's brother-in-law Father Daniel Hinsperger and the Church Pastor Father Frank Freitas. Cremation will follow with interment at New Hope Cemetery. Those who wish may make a memorial donation to Ducks Unlimited.
