Notes |
- MALANYCH, Antonia
Passed away peacefully, with her family at her side at Cambridge Memorial Hospital, on Sunday, June 6, 2005. Born in the Ukraine in 1924, Antonia Olieshevich married Michael Malanych in 1944 and immigrated to Canada in 1948. Antonia and Michael lived in Waterford, Ontario, where after establishing themselves they were able to purchase a small farm. In 1955, they moved to Cambridge, where she worked at various shoe factories and Leisure Lodge. In the 1970's, she retired from Hostess Foods, after many years of employment. She was a member of St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church where she was president of the congregation’s Catholic Women's League, for a number of years. She was active in her church community, all her life. She loved her family and friends and was generous beyond words. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to sing in the church choir. She was an excellent cook and very much enjoyed organizing church dinners and catering special events, such as weddings and showers. Known as Toni and Doris in different circles, she was perhaps best known, as the "perogie lady" who made fabulous cabbage rolls and perogies. She is survived by and will be sadly missed, by her husband of 61 years, Michael, her daughter, Anne Leslie (Edward) of Burtts Corner, N.B., sons, Michael and Terry both of Cambridge, granddaughters, Erin Malanych of Hamilton, Lorissa Leslie of Toronto, grandson, Nikolas Leslie of Fredericton, N.B. and niece, Mary Malanych of Cambridge, who resided, with her. She was as courageous in death, as she was in life. The family will receive friends at the Barthel Funeral Home, 566 Queenston Road, Cambridge, on Wednesday, from 2- 4 and 7. 9 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's Ukrainian Church, 582 Eagle St. N., Cambridge, on Thursday, June 30, 2005, at 10 a.m., with Father Volodymyr Yanishevsky officiating. Interment in Parklawn Cemetery, Cambridge.
