Notes |
- A well known and highly esteemed resident of Elmwood, Mrs. Fred Stuempfle, Sr., passed away at her home last Saturday morning, after a lingering illness. Although she had been ailing in health for some time past, the late Mrs. Stuempfle had been confined to her bed only for the past two and a half weeks. News of her passing will be received with widespread regret by friends throughout the surrounding district. The late Mrs. Stuempfle, whose maiden name was Elizabeth (Betsy) Schlorff, was a native of Brant Township, where she was born on Feb. 22, 1870, the daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. Louis Schlorff. On April 8, 1890, she was united in marriage to Mr. Fred Stuempfle and they resided in Bentinck Township for 29 years, until retiring to this village in 1919. Deceased leaves to mourn her passing her sorrowing husband and six children, David of Kitchener; Herman of Brant; Annie, Mrs. J. Subject of Bentinck, Emma, Mrs. Arthur Leifso of Brant; Marie at home and Frederick of Hanover. Ten grandchildren, three brothers, William and John of Brant and Louis of Carrick and four sisters, Mrs. Ernest Weidendorf of Bentinck, Mrs. William Cords of Winnipeg, Mrs. Chris Sachs of Brant and Mrs. Fred Frook of Brant, also survive. The funeral was held on Monday afternoon. There was a private service at the house at 2 o'clock, followed by a memorial service at St. John's Lutheran Church here, of which the late Mrs. Stuempfle was a faithful member. Interment was made in Elmwood Cemetery. Rev. F. L. Howald was in charge of the services which were largely attended by former friends of the deceased. Pallbearers were three brothers and three brother-in-laws, namely Messrs. Louis, John and William Schlorff, Chris Sachs, Ernest Weidendorf and Fred Frook.
