SORLEY, Paul W. Passed away suddenly on Friday, February 28, 2014, with family by his side, in his 85th year. Paul was the Beloved husband of Geraldine (Gerry) Elsley for 63 years. Cherished father of David of Markham, Trudy Stephens and her husband Ray, of Oshawa, and Tammy Park and her husband Steve of Markham. Devoted grandfather of Shawn Stephens and his wife Lindsay, Aaron Sorley and his wife Dawn, Bryan Sorley, Amanda Stephens, and Dylan and Jordon Park and proud great-grand-father of Travis and Taylor Sorley. He was the dear son of the late Reverend Christopher and Muriel Sorley and loving brother of Isabelle Ostergarde, Grace Sorley, Tim Sorley, Edythe Widdes and the late Earl Sorley (1938). Much loved son-in-law of Mabel and the late Harry Elsley and dear brother-in-law of Jean, Joan, and Judy (Bryan). Paul will be lovingly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, and the rest of his family and many friends. Paul was a retired Funeral Director who started his career in Kitchener and worked in Toronto from 1950-2000. Upon returning to Kitchener in 2000 Paul transferred to Christ the King United Church and sang in their choir. He got involved with the Rockway Senior Centre and served on the Advisory Council including a time as chairman. He started the Crokinole Circle at the Rockway Senior Centre, and played in the World Crokinole Championship for a number of years. Paul was also an avid golfer who was a Junior Member of the Rockway Golf Club in the 1940's and marshalled at the Rockway for a number of years. He was also the President of the Historical Golf Society of Canada, a group of players who enjoyed collecting, repairing, and playing with old wooden shafted golf clubs. He ran the booth at the Toronto Golf Show and organized many tournaments for the Historical Golf Society. Paul was also a proud member of the Kitchener, Waterloo 80 Squadron Air Cadet Band from 1943 to 1947 and won many medals in competitions at the Waterloo Band Festival. He also started the Air Cadet Reunion in 2000 and it is still running. Friends will be received at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at Christ The King United Church, 167 Thaler Ave., Kitchener at 11 a.m. Interment Mount Hope Cemetery.
