At Centreville, the Rev. Joseph Bauman deeded part of GCT53 in March 1835 to trustees Henry Wismer, Benjamin Bowman and Philip Bleam for a new school- except for two days a month when it was needed for public meetings. In Preston, Isaac Salyerds, Otto Klotz and Jacob Beck were elected as trustees in 1838 and a stone schoolhouse, 32 x 26 feet on the north side of Queen Street, was opened in 1839 to fee-paying pupils, with Abraham Speicher as the first teacher.
