Notes |
- Josiah Wainwright Passes - Funeral service for the late Josiah Wainwright, who passed away at his residence, Piper street, on Thursday, was held from the W. O. Ball Funeral Parlor on Saturday afternoon. Rites were conducted by Rev. W. D. Goodger, with interment in the Ayr Cemetery. The following were the pallbearers: Carl Heubach, Alex Gourlay, William Underwood, Robert Gladstone; William Gladstone and James C. Swan. The late Mr. Wainwright, who was in his 73rd year, had been ill only a short time prior to his passing. A native of England, he came to Canada following World War I, and was employed in the Galt district for some years before coming to this village more than 15 years ago. He was employed in the carpenter shop of the Watson company up until recently when he retired.
A Noted Horticulturist
An ardent horticulturist, Mr. Wainwright was at his happiest when he was among his flowers. Not only were the blooms and plants a hobby, but they provided considerable revenue from the many customers who made purchases. A source of great pride to Mr. Wainwright was the floral coronation display that he raised this past summer which was viewed by many residents. He is survived by his wife (Jessie).
