Spanish Influenza Claims a Popular and Successful Physician

The people of Ayr grieved inconsolably when it was learned that one of their native born and best beloved sons, in the person of Dr. A. S. Lovett of Paris, had succumbed to Spanish Influenza after an illness of over a week's duration, notwithstanding that everything possible was done to pull him through.

The deceased was a son of Dr. Wm. Lovett of this village, and was personally known to almost everybody in the community. Forty-five years ago he first saw the light of day in Ayr and grew into manhood in our midst. He was educated here, finishing up at Galt. Later he was graduated from the Toronto Medical College and commenced practicing in Ayr. In 1904 he went to Paris, and soon succeeded in working up a very large practice.

Dr. Lovett had been untiring in combating the "flu" epidemic at Paris in his capacity as both medical practitioners and as health officer, and on one day he attended to 50 calls without stopping to take any nourishment. A day or so later he contracted the disease himself. Mrs. Lovett and three children were also attacked.

In 1906 Dr. Lovett was married to Florence, only daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Thomas Bingham, London. Four children survive. Two brothers, Major James Lovett and Corp. Morton Lovett, are overseas and both in France. Two sisters, Mrs. O. T. Falls of Regina and Mrs. D. Petrie of Ayr, also mourn their loss.

The late Dr. Lovett belonged to the Masonic and I.O.O.F. orders. Besides being the M.O.H. of Paris, he was also a member of the Brant County Sanatorium Board and was interested (image poor next few words are not legible) …ian and in politics a Conservative, with Parliamentary aspirations and good prospects.

The funeral took place on Sunday, when interment was made in the Paris cemetery under Masonic auspices.
