- Anselm Franzmathes was the 4G-grandson of Ernst von Bertremouille, landowner and supreme field commander (Obrist) in 1600 Germany.
EXTRACT FROM THE BAPTISMAL BOOK OF THE CATHOLIC PARISH OF KRAUTHEIM
"In the year 1801 on the twenty-sixth day of February between the second and third hour of the morning was born in Krautheim, Anselm Francis Martinus, legitimate son of a married couple, the very noble and very learned Lord John Joseph Franzmadhes, electoral archgovernor in Krautheim, a lawyer, and of Joanna Regina Wallburgis, born Pleiser, from Mainz. He was baptized the same day by the Reverend Lord A....Leo, lifted from the baptismal font by the very noble and very learned Lord Anselm Francis Lieb, intimate advisor of the most eminent Prince Elector of Mainz and Director of the Electoral Government, on whose behalf Martin Schmeuser, a citizen in Krautheim and innkeeper there at the Lion (a pub) acted. In witness whereof I have given this document signed by my own hand and joined with the parish seal."
On the 27th of October, 1830, Anselm Franzmathes, formerly of Tauberbischofsheim, married Christina Josefa Reichert in Freudenberg, Germany. Anselm and family immigrated to the United States in 1852 arriving in Philadelphia He worked as a furniture maker in Philadelphia for 3 years and then moved to Waterloo County, Ontario, Canada. In 1873, he brought his family to Smith County Kansas in a covered wagon. He resided there until his death the day before his birthday at age 92.
His wife, Anna Christina Josepha Reichert, born 1804, was buried 22 May, 1860, in Bloomingdale, Canada.
