  BARTLEY - Ewart Andrew (of 15 Crestwood Drive, Cambridge) at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital on Friday, August 28th, 1987 in his 79th year. Beloved husband of Olive Stewart and dear father of Philip and wife Diana of Brantford. Also survived by 2 grandchildren Marlo and Nathan of Brantford. Predeceased by 2 brothers Clare and Lloyd Bartley. Mr. Bartley was a member of the Masonic Lodge, he served on the Examining Board of the Western Conservatory of Music London from 1953-1960 and the Examining Board of the Royal Conservatory of Music Toronto from 1961-1980. Mr. Bartley was the organist and choir leader at Knox's (Galt) Presbyterian Church from 1943-1980. He was the music supervisor of Preston Public Schools from 1943-1968. He started as church organist at St. Paul's Presbyterian and Trinity United Church in Ingersol[sic]. He as born in Toronto and educated in Woodstock and received his music education at the Royal Conservatory Music Toronto under Albert Jordan-organ, Ernest Seitz-piano, Healey Willan-composition. Mr. Bartley was a member of the Kiwanis and Y's Mens Club Ingersol[sic]. He was active in various concert associations in Galt and was an Elder of Knox's Galt Presbyterian Church. He was a noted composer and organized and conducted the Scroggins Male Choir and later the Bartley Singers. Mr. Bartley was awarded the Bernice Adams Trustees Special award for his contributions to the Cultural life in the city of Cambridge in May 1985. A private family service was held from Corbett Funeral Home, 95 Dundas Street, Cambridge. Cremation followed. A memorial service will be held from Knox's Galt Presbyterian Church, Queens Square, Cambridge on Wednesday, September 2nd, 1987 at 7: 30 p.m. As expressions of sympathy donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Knox's Galt Presbyterian Church Organ Fund. __________________________ 'Gentle' musician for schools and concerts Ewart Andrew Bartley, a well-known figure in Cambridge's music community, died yesterday at Cambridge Memorial Hospital. He was 79. Mr. Bartley was the music supervisor of the Preston public schools from 1943 until 1968. He was active in a number of concert associations in Galt, and was an Elder at Knox's Presbyterian Church in Galt. Mr. Bartley was also a member of the Masonic Lodge. Rev. Robert Jackson, minister at the church for 31 years, remembers Mr. Bartley as "a gentleman, in the real sense of the word." "I worked with him for 31 years. Every week we planned the services. "In all those years we never had a disagreement of any kind." "He was a gentle, kind, very caring person. He was a genius with his work yet he had time for people…who weren't very musical." Mr. Bartley lived at 15 Crestwood Dr. and survived by his wife Olive Stewart, as well as son Philip and daughter-in-law, Diana, of Brantford. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Marlo and Nathan of Brantford. Mr. Bartley was the organist and choir leader at Knox's (Galt) Presbyterian Church from 1943 until 1980.
