  "Toronto newspapers, particularly the Mail and the Globe, had lengthy accounts, as had also Hamilton, Buffalo and other papers. The Canadian Illlustrated News of Montreal sent a special correspondent, F. M. Bellsmith [Sn.], later a water color artist of national reputation, who made the spirited sketches for the illustrations spoken of, contained in the September 4th, 1875, number of this paper." THE SAENGERFEST OF 1875 W. H. Breithaupt, Waterloo Historical Society Annual Volume 1933 ______________ Mr. F. M. Bellsmith, Sr., is in town visiting his son, F. M. Bellsmith, artist. The Chronicle Telegraph, 24 Oct 1901, p. 3 _____________ Rev. F. M. Bellsmith With His Saviour On July 4th, just one week before his seventy-sixth birthday, Brother F. M. Bellsmith passed into the presence of his Lord. The funeral in Evangel Temple, Toronto, was conducted by Rev. W. G. McPherson. Rev. H. R. Pannabecker preached the funeral sermon. Representing the General Officers and the Fellowship, the Western Ontario District, and the Eastern Ontario and Quebec District, Brothers G. R. Upton, G. Atter, and G. B. Griffin respectively, paid tribute to our departed brother. Fellow ministers of the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada acted as pallbearers. Interment was in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Toronto. Converted at the age of about thirteen years, graduated from college and ordained as a Methodist minister, Brother Bellsmith preached the Gospel in many towns and cities of Ontario. Later, receiving the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, he entered the fellowship of the P.A.O.C., preaching the Gospel in many churches. across Canada, and serving the young people our Fellowship as a teacher in Western Bible College and later Ontario Pentecostal Bible School.. He was a man of many parts. Following in the footsteps of his father, he wielded the artist's brush, or, sitting at the piano he loved to play and sing the old hymns. Among his favourites was: "I know I love Thee better, Lord, than any earthly joy, For Thou hast given me a peace which nothing can destroy. Oh Saviour, precious Saviour mine, what will Thy presence be If such a life of joy can crown, our walk on earth with Thee? The half has never yet been told, of Love so full and free. The half has never yet been told; the Blood, it cleanseth me." He was an upstanding Christian who loved his Lord in deep sincerity; a staunch Protestant who detested innovations that savoured of Rome; a keen student of Church History; a man who loved to pray and enjoyed the fellowship of his brethren. He was ever alive to the need of revival, and encouraged his brethren in any forward step he felt to be to that end. May God's richest blessing and comfort be the portion of his sons and their wives and families in their sorrow. THE PENTECOSTAL TESTIMONY _______________ F. M. Bellsmith was a pioneer in the early Pentecostal movement in Canada. Son of noted Canadian artist with the same name, Bellsmith was educated at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago and became a Methodist minister in 1908. He served in churches in Winnipeg and Toronto and later enlisted in WW1 as a private, later serving the 204th Battalion as chaplain. He later received the baptism of the Holy Spirit and joined the PAOC, serving in churches in Epsom, Mono Road, and Cookeville. He later joined the staff of Western Bible College and then served as teacher as Ontario Pentecostal Bible School. Bellsmith travelled extensively throughout Canada on preaching missions and taught many pastors and missionaries. He had 12 children, 5 sons from his first marriage, 7 children from his second spouse, Rosalie Marion Bellsmith. He was regarded as an upstanding Christian who was a keen student of church history.
