    • GINGRICH, George Coates - Passed away suddenly at his home on Monday, August 15, 2011, at the age of 80.

      Beloved husband of Joan Gingrich (nee Huggett).

      Loved father of Jon Gingrich (Brenda), Barbara Milmine (Ron), and Stephen Gingrich (Jeanine). Dear Papa to Laurie, Kendra, Joanna, Karl, Georgia, Stephanie (Stevie), and Caldon. George was a well known, long time Chartered Accountant in Cambridge at Bolt, Gingrich and Nuremburg and later with Collins Barrow, retiring in 1998.

      Throughout the 1960s-1990s, he was actively involved in local community affairs, having won election to Cambridge City Council in the late 1970s, where he served on both the Planning and Finance Committees. He was also Chairman on the Cambridge Library Board, at the time when the new central library was built. As director and treasurer of Cambridge Non-Profit Housing, he was instrumental in overseeing the building of five new developments. George was also a former President and Treasurer of the Galt Kinsmen Club and served terms on the Board of Directors and as Treasurer for the Galt Country Club. In addition, he dedicated numerous hours at St. Giles Presbyterian Church and at the Crief Hills Community. In 1992, the Governor General of Canada, Ray Hnatyshyn, paid tribute to George's efforts by presenting him with the Canada 125 Commemorative Medal, in recognition of making a significant contribution to compatriots, community and to Canada.

      Following George's wishes, cremation has taken place.

      George's family will receive friends on Thursday, August 18, from 2-4 p.m. and from 7-9 p.m. at Coutts Funeral Home, at 96 St. Andrews St., Cambridge, Ontario. A memorial service will take place at Central Presbyterian Church, 7 Queen's Square, Cambridge on Friday, August 19, at 11 a.m. As expressions of sympathy, donations can be directed to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario.
