  Evanston 12 Oct 1902 "Dear Uncle, I am sending you by express a small bucket full of paint, for your kitchen floor. If the old color is gone as far as the wood, then it will be necessary to give the bad places 3 coats altogether. For the first time take two thirds boiled oil, one third turpentine and first take one third of all of the Japan. That is the stuff that you use to dry it. If you have some lead white, then put a little bit in it, but not so that it gets thick. . .After the second (coat) is dry, then please let me know if it dried quickly and if you have enough paint for the last coat, and then I will tell you how to proceed.
