  WALTER RUPPEL Walter Ruppel, 77, of 426 Duke St., Preston, died Thursday Dec. 3, at South Waterloo Memorial Hospital Galt. A Preston resident for 55 years, he was a local fireman for 35 years, and driver of the fire truck for 15 years. Born in Elmira, he was a former moulder at the Ballantyne foundry, P. E. Shantz Foundry and Preston Woodworking Machinery Company Ltd. He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church and the local IOOF. His wife, the former Alma Scherer, died last year. Surviving are one son, Howard of Preston; four brothers, Percy of Waterloo, Louis and Norman of Elmira and Arthur of Kitchener; four sisters, Mrs. Max. Herz of Waterloo, Mrs. Ben Schultz of Decatur, Ind., Mrs. Rosetta Lossener of Orange, Calif., and Mrs. Alvin (Lauratta) Brubacher of Elmira, and two grandchildren. The body was at the Stager-Barthel Funeral Home, where the funeral was conducted Sunday, at 2: 30 p.m. Interment was in Preston Cemetery. Rev. J. S. Dauphinee officiated.
