  Isaac H. Moyer, "son of Samuel B. and Magdalena (Houser) Moyer, was born in Clinton Township, Lincoln County, Ontario, near Jordan, March 10th, 1836. In November 1859, he left his parental home and came to Waterloo where he engaged himself to Amos Schwartz to learn the painting business which he followed many years. On February 11th, 1862, he was married to Esther, daughter of Benjamin and Nancy (Shantz) Weber. They resided in the town of Waterloo until October, 1875, when they moved near Bloomingdale where he follows farming and raising fruit and vegetables for the market. On April 7th, 1886, his wife died, leaving a family of six children. On October 3rd, 1886, he was again married to Sarah, daughter of Jacob E. and Elizabeth (Clemens) Schneider. She was born June 1st, 1845." Eby, Ezra E. (1895). Berlin [Kitchener, Ont.]: [s.n.]. ____________________________ It was a Pennsylvania Dutch custom to build a new house in front of the former one, and evidence of an old foundation substantiates the fact that this was done here in 1882. The house was built by Jacob Mohr, a carpenter who lived across the road. - Ben Moyer's diary. The necessary washhouse and woodshed, smoke house and other small buildings that were deemed necessary were added. April 18th, 1883, 3/100 of an acre on the west side of the road was sold to Jacob Mohr, Magdalena was born in the new house and the eldest daughter Anna (Nancy) was married to Isaac Martin in 1884. Mrs. Isaac Moyer died April 7, 1896 and on October 3rd of the same year Isaac Moyer married Sarah Schneider. There was a small building situated in front of the house near the road which was used in the painting business, and also as a broom factory, operated by son Benjamin. A grandson of Isaac Moyer recalls how Mr. Moyer walked to Hawkesville with a bucket of paint, and that he always left his name and the date on the belfry of the houses which he painted. He also painted signs for business firms and had a host of satisfied customers in Waterloo township. He was an artist in more ways than one, as is proven by a self portrait, presently hanging in the living room of Norman Buehler, of St. Jacobs, Ontario, who is also a sign painter. In former days the Mennonite church frowned upon certain forms of art and the commandment - "Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above or that is in the earth beneath or that is in the water under the earth" was taken literally . Mr. Moyer was not encouraged and his considerable talent in this line was not developed. The children of the neighborhood adored white haired, gentle Mr. Moyer and loved to visit the pleasant home that always had special treats such as ice cream and candy. The barn was renovated in 1895 as shown by an inscription of the date on the building. This was a busy household indeed, market gardening entailed a great deal of work the apnle orchard planted in 1876 was in its prime. In 1899 Mr. Moyer deeded this prooperty to his wife Sarah Moyer. Son, Simeon, contracted tuberculosis and died May 1899. Isaac Moyer died July 26, 1902. This farm was sold to Abbie Selina Neber, wife of Allan S. Ifober, on March 29th, 1902.
