      Joseph Louis Messner of 177 Clark St. died Wednesday at the Toronto General Hospital after a brief illness. He was 48.

      Born in Kitchener, Dec.. 18, 1920, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs.. Carl Messner. He had been employed as a steward; at the Knights of Columbus Hall for two years.

      A member of St. Aloysius RC Church, he was also a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus and belonged to the Council of Catholic Men.

      Surviving, besides his wife, the former Norma Brenner, are one son, Michael at home; four daughters, Anne, Catherine, Mary and Cecilia, all at home; one sister, Mrs. Roy (Margerite) Utley of Kitchener.

      The body will be at the Schreiter - Sandrock Funeral Home after 7:30 p.m. tonight. The parish rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Friday followed by a special Kitchener Knights of Columbus prayer service at 8:30 pin.

      Prayers at the funeral home Saturday at 10:30 a,m. will be followed at 11 a.m. by requiem mass at St. Aloysius RC Church. Rev. C. A. Hauser will officiate. Burial will be in Woodland cemetery.

      Name at birth as Louis Nihill on 18 Dec 1920 in Kitchener. The 1921 Canada Census confirms that Louis Nihill, age 5 months, was an orphan at the St Agatha Orphanage. His father was recorded as being Irish and he was, a Roman Catholic. The orphanage was headed by a Mother Superior with 18 Sisters that were looking after 73 orphans. St. Agatha baptismal records the baptism.
