    • Protection for some heritage properties

The City of Cambridge is moving to protect several heritage properties in the oldest section of the city. At its general committee meeting Monday night, council moved to add 149 King St. W., 154 Fountain St. and the millrace section of the King Street Bridge to the city's heritage properties registry. The two 19th century yellow brick homes and the bridge span were first identified as being culturally significant during the environmental assessment study being carried out by the Region of Waterloo. The study was developed as part of  planned improvements for the stretch of King and Fountain Streets between Shantz Hill Road and Eagle Street. The city's heritage advisory committee agreed that the structures should be added to the registry and put the request to council. General committee also approved the staff recommendation after hearing that neither the region nor property owners objected. Council will make a final decision Monday.1a
