    • AMOS, ROBERT TILLIE

      Suddenly, veteran auctioneer, real estate businessman and cattle breeder, of Guelph, formerly of Nassagaweya and Puslinch Townships, on Friday, November 27, 1959, at the age of 75. Mr. Amos operated an auctioneering and real estate business in the Guelph area since 1920, when he graduated from the Jones School of Auctioneering in Chicago. Born in North Dumfries Township, Waterloo County, he was the son of George Amos and Ellen Adams. The family moved to Moffat about three years later. As a youth, Mr. Amos became interested in cattle breeding and showing and for a number of years was active in the registered cattle business. In 1911 he married Margaret Ella MacKenzie in Puslinch Township. At that time, he was a member of Nassagaweya Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Amos predeceased him a year ago. In 1918, he took over the John MacKenzie farm in Puslinch Township, from where he operated his auctioneering business, also entering the real estate business by 1930. For a time, he operated his business from the office of a firm on Douglas. St. in Guelph but moved to Guelph in 1945 and opened an office in his home at 76 Edinburgh Road North. He was a member of Guelph Chapter, Royal Lodge of Perfection, the Rose Croix, Waverly Lodge and Moore Consistitory in Hamilton. He was also an active member of a number of local euchre clubs. Active in church work, he was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church, an elder of that church and a former member of the board of managers. Services were held Mon. , Nov. 30th at Knox Presbyterian Church. Rev. D. Crawford Smith officiated. Tovell Funeral Home, 15 Yarmouth St. Pallbearers: William Black, Russel Stevens, Thomas Gilchrist, Harold Smith, William Gibson, and Hugh Jack. Seven grandchildren attended as flowerbearers. Burial Crown Cemetery, Puslinch. He is survived by three daughters: Helen (Mrs. William H. Jones) of Fergus; Anne (Mrs. Ivan Richardson) of Campbellville; Ruth (Mrs, Raymond Blacklock) of Milton; a son, Walter of New Hamburg; a brother, Thomas C. of Moffat. A son, John, predeceased him.
