Notes |
- Passing of W. D. Stewart - Word was received here Monday of the death of Wm. D. Stewart, which event occurred at Tacoma, Washington Territory, towards the end of last week. No particulars are available, but it is known that Mr. Stewart was suffering from diabetes and that he had undergone an operation which has pronounced successful, according to a telegram received by his relatives in Ottawa. "Dod," as deceased was familiarly known here, was a long-time resident of this community, and kept a grocery store for some years in the premises now occupied by Harry Sing. He was very popular with the public and did an extensive business. Later he went to Alaska and dabbled in mining stocks, returning in comfortable circumstances. Some nine years ago he married Miss Olive Madge, of this village, and again went west, settling in Tacoma. Two brothers, Robert and Pete, and a sister, Mrs. McHutchion, reside in Ottawa. Interment was made at Tacoma. Deep sympathy will be extended to the members of the family in their sore bereavement.
