    • EMDE, Alfred 1921-2012 Passed away at St. Mary's Hospital on Friday, July 13, 2012, at the age of 90.

      Beloved husband of Elfriede Emde (nee Wienecke). Dear father of Marlis Letzel, Dirk Emde and Wolfgang Emde. Beloved grandfather of Anita Smith, Corina Koehler, Tracy Holomek, and Kimberley Billo.

      Beloved great-grandfather of Shayne Koehler, Kendra Seymour, Tiffany Koehler and Trevor Smith.

      Beloved great-great-grandfather of Bianca Bastos, Hailey Bastos and Calleigh Seymour. A WWII war hero and decorated pilot, he survived a horrific plane crash and wounds suffered during the Battle of the Bulge. He started a Tool and Die business and opened a restaurant, as well as travelling the globe.

      Criss-crossing North America numerous times, he also spent time in Europe, North-Africa and the Middle East. He spent several years in Las Vegas and California, where he met President Richard Nixon, worked as a personal chef for media mogul Donald Reynolds and cooked for the reclusive Howard Hughes. In his later years, he loved his cats and worked long hours on his research and his memoirs.

      Taking great solace and comfort in the Baha'i faith, he would discourse at length on the lives of the Bab and Baha'ullah. A private service will be held by the family at Williamsburg Cemetery. Donations to the K-W Humane Society would be appreciated by the family and may be arranged through Henry Walser Funeral Home , 507 Frederick St., Kitchener, (519) 749-8467.
