      H. C. Heinicke was appointed bandmaster in 1890. There were then only fifteen players, but within a few months he enrolled twenty-two more. The band won laurels in Hamilton, Galt and other centres, which so pleased Mr. Roos that he presented Mr. Heinicke with a cheque for $100. Soon afterward Mr. Roos gave up the presidency, when he was elected Hon. President for life. Mr. Heinicke retired in the middle nineties and was followed by Wm. Forder, a former leader of military bands. Mr. Forder continued till 1900. In those years there was a keen rivalry between the Berlin and Waterloo bands. When Mr. Forder withdrew, Noah Zeller, who had led the Waterloo band for eighteen years, was appointed leader of the Berlin band. He brought the society's band up to a high pitch of excellence. It was averred: "Mr. Zeller's musicians play a Beethoven symphony or a Wagnerian overture with as much skill as any popular air." Engagements were filled in numerous Canadian and American cities. The 29th Battalion Band accompanied the First Canadian Contingent to the Quebec Centenary in 1908 and acted as guard of honor to the Prince of Wales, later King George V. Once, after an engagement in Toronto, Saturday Night commented: "Of all the bands which visit Toronto, except professional bands, it is the best."
