Located on the Grand River within a few miles of Berlin is a spot where manufacturing was commenced over three quarters of a century ago by the establishment of a saw mill. Thirty years later, or about 1860, a more pretentious effort was made by the erection of a woollen factory. This factory at Chicopee is still in operation. It is of concrete and, when erected nearly 50 years ago, there were not wanting many wise ones who prophesied the early, if not the immediate, collapse of the building. But it stands to-day and from it come famous blankets that have won an enviable reputation. The present proprietors are D. L. Weber and Sons. Mr. Weber purchased the property in 1877
