Shoemaker Printed in German, this book of Christian doctrine was published in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in 1811. It was brought to Waterloo County by Jacob S. Shoemaker (1798-1875) in 1820. Jacob initially worked at Abraham Erb's grist mill (a replica of the mill is located in Waterloo Park) prior to building and operating several of his own mills in Bridgeport. In 1822, Jacob married Elizabeth Schneider (1802-1876), a daughter of Joseph Schneider (1772-1843) and Barbara Eby (1774-1843), the original owners of Schneider Haus National Historic Site.
