Kitchener-WaterSt.N.-HenryJacksonHouse-0001-BirdsEyeMap.jpg The Grand Trunk Railway had plans for a cross-Canada route but it also needed a cross-Ontario line to link Montreal, Toronto and Detroit, thus giving Canada access to the flourishing American Midwest economy. The finalized route brought the Grand Trunk through Berlin, a village of ”on a good day” 1,100 people in 1853: it also brought the Henry Jackson family. His job was to ensure the GTR tracks from Guelph to Stratford were properly constructed. He stored the required supplies on a triangular Berlin property close to the route.
